Sacred & Profane Gallery Show

Posted by The Mind of Nate | Art, Photography and Design,Cool Stuff Worth Checking Out,People, Places and Events | Thursday 30 October 2008 11:57 am

So my friend makes these crazy bone sculptures. Last Monday I helped him cart over a dozen of his sculptures to Houston TX to setup in the Celtic Dragon Gallery. If you want to check out the show the address of the gallery is; 1503A Chartres, Houston TX. I believe the show runs from now until mid December so if you get a chance go check it out!

Also last night I sat down in the Haven Meadows Studio and made my own bone sculpture. Here are some pictures:

Good morning America…..

Posted by The Mind of Nate | Angry American Complains About A Bunch Of Crap,Random Thoughts,The Path To Enlightenment | Tuesday 28 October 2008 9:24 am

and welcome to my mind
I’ve had a few things on my mind about the world and the way everything has been going recently and I’m going to express them unchecked and forthwith.
Wake up America! WAKE UP WORLD! Turn off your TV and WAKE UP! Do you not realize that we have all become slaves to our income. Slaves to our jobs, and when we get home, slaves to our television screens. Working for corporations that their main agenda is to MAKE MORE MONEY! Money is what makes the world turn. The more income we have the more comfortable we become. The more money we have the more we want the latest and greatest of everything. We spend trillions of dollars a day on CRAP WE DON’T NEED trying to buy happiness. We are being controlled by comfort, and can be comfortably rocked into a blissful lull of slavery. Slaves to money. Slaves to television. Slaves to our jobs and our bills. Slaves to everything we own. Control is all about comfort. If an individual is comfortable they don’t question much. They sit in comfortable bliss and allow themselves to be manipulated by those who feed them the things that they think they need to be more comfortable, to be happy. You were comfortable with yourself until you saw someone more attractive on television. You were happy with what you have until you see someone with nicer things than you. Then you have to have it. We are a consumer driven economy and we the consumers are going to drive ourselves into economic slavery. If we haven’t already. So TURN OFF YOUR DAMN TELEVISION. Go think for yourself for once. Why do you accept everything that is fed into your brain as the truth. Don’t believe everything you hear, especially on TV. Don’t allow your whole life to be wasted. Open your eyes and go do something amazing, or creative. Join a club, write a book, hell… learn something new from the internet. Its an abundance of information. Just please, TURN OFF YOUR DAMN TV! When did we become so zombified that we just blindly accept everything that is shoved down our throats and lost the ability to think for ourselves. I think religion had a large part to do with it. Blind faith. Accept what we are telling you without question. Don’t forget to tithe. We will show you the way of the truth and light. Well it all sounds nice, but why is it that every single one is a hypocrite? Why!?! And what about the similarities between all the other religions? Why is one religion any better, or hell, any different than any other religion? Because names and circumstance are changed? But when you get down to the core ideas they are all the same. Yet people will fight, argue, and even kill to prove their belief the right one. You know what world, I say WAKE UP! Wake up and realize that we are all one and the same. Anyone that is telling you that you are any better or any worse than someone else because of your age, race, wealth, nationality or religious preference is simply TRYING TO CONTROL YOU. Don’t allow anyone to control or dictate your thought. Go think for yourself for once. And please, TURN OFF YOUR DAMN TELEVISION!

Watch this movie…

Posted by The Mind of Nate | Angry American Complains About A Bunch Of Crap,Political Bitching | Tuesday 21 October 2008 12:25 am

it will open your eyes…

Part 1 – The Greatest Story Ever Told – 0:00:00 to 0:40:40
Part 2 – All The World’s A Stage – 0:40:40 to 1:14:40
Part 3 – Don’t Mind The Man Behind The Curtain – 1:14:40 to 2:02:09

I would highly recommend watching Part 3 if you disagree with part 1 or part 2. I found it to be the most interesting (although it is all very interesting) Also, don’t just believe everything you hear. This goes not only for this movie but for EVERYTHING. Do your own research, come to your own conclusion.

And then the new one….

Its not too late to change…..

Birth a Bounty of Peace….

Posted by The Mind of Nate | Cool Stuff Worth Checking Out,People, Places and Events | Monday 20 October 2008 4:20 pm

So this last weekend was Maker Faire!!! It felt like I died and went to NERD HEAVEN! :P LoL

So.. I saw all sorts of cool stuff! There were electric Cars, MIDI Guitars, a computer built out of an old oscilloscope, a computer submerged in a fish tank, instruments you play by waving your hand, touch sensitive music controller, fire drums, a fire truck with a built in solar stage, self propelled skateboards, a city of legos and MORE!!!

As well as some awesome art including: 3D Portraits on the spot, beautiful digital prints with welded frames to match, some really nice HDR photography, trippy 3D art, beautiful photoshop compliations, a guy who carves peanuts and even some amazing hand carved leather art by Moses. Moses even showed me how to make my own leather art and I think leather carving is going to become a new hobby of mine.

I also talked to so many cool people: a couple that sells funky art online, a Texas handmade art dealer, a guy setting up community workshops and labs, and my favorite; a couple that walked around talking to people and giving them inspirational cards. I talked to them for a while and ended up getting three of them, the first one read “birth” the second “bounty” and the third “peace”
I think I know what they mean….

Some old 3D Photos….

Posted by The Mind of Nate | 3D Photos and Illusions,Art, Photography and Design,Techno-Blabb | Monday 20 October 2008 10:28 am

Well as I mentioned before I lost my portfolio… but this last weekend at Makers Faire I saw so many people enjoying 3D artwork and photographs (most of it brought out by 8D crew members) I decided to show off a couple of my 3D Photos (that were salvaged thanks to being uploaded to myspace) These are all anaglyph 3D photos so your going to need to put on your red and blue 3D glasses now….

These 3 were all taken at the Austin Greenbelt.

This was a photoshop I did combining 2 3D photographs together.

This was a photoshop 3D edit that turned out cool.

Well thats all folks! I’m gonna blog later about all the cools stuff I saw at the Makers Faire

I wish I was an artist….

Posted by The Mind of Nate | Art, Photography and Design,I hate thieves | Friday 17 October 2008 12:54 pm

That would be so cool! to make art…

too bad my computer got stolen in August (right before my birthday!) and right now I can’t afford to replace it. (they stole my camera too… I hate thieves!) So now I’ve been doing my design work on an old school pad and paper. I want to turn this Ferrari into a digital painting at some point… If anyone knows where I can get a DECENT laptop (one that can handle the kind of design work I’m used to doing) for CHEAP (or FREE???) drop me an email (link is to your right) and let me know. Until then I’m stuck to using other peoples computers and my drawing pad.

It’ll look so much better digitally painted! :P

I will be out there with the 8D crew and I think were going to be showing people 3D art… so check it out!

also while I’m advertising… check out the new and improved
Subliminal Phoenix (dot com)

The site still needs some IE debugging but it looks beautiful in Firefox

So while your checking all this new stuff out let me recommend an awesome website to you for Photoshop tutorials and techniques. Its hosted on an online video website called Revision3 and the show is called Pixel Perfect The host Bert Monroy is kinda like the Bob Ross of digital painting. If your just starting out learning photoshop or an advanced user who wants to learn new techniques I would highly recommend watching all of his episodes.

Well thats it for now guys…

What is art?

Posted by The Mind of Nate | Art, Photography and Design | Wednesday 8 October 2008 10:51 am

So last night I was at Sustainable Waves Solar Tuesday weekly event. A friend of mine decided to make a statement on her opinion of digital artist. That statement used an expletive as an adjective to describe digital art as a whole. Being a digital artist I found the statement to be both offensive and unfounded. Her argument was that art has to be in a malleable form, something that you make with your hands and not a machine. I countered that my hands are used to manipulate the machine to create what I want to create. I also sometimes use a wacom tablet that is like digital pencil and paper. She still insisted that using a computer is not art and she refuses to consider digital art a valid art form.

So I decided today to blog about art and what constitutes art. Well by definition Art refers to a diverse range of human activities, creations, and expressions that are appealing to the senses or emotions of a human individual. (Thanks Wikipedia!) So by that definition visual art would be something created that is aesthetically pleasing that invokes an emotional response. Well that can include many things! Some people get an emotional response from looking at a Ferrari so does that make a Ferrari a work of art? (I think so) But what is the difference between a car designer and a painter? Designing is not art. Once again I’m going back to Wikipedia… “to design” refers to the process of originating and developing a plan for a product, structure, system, or component. So design is used when creating art but design is not art. Art can be the outcome of the design if it is aesthetically pleasing and invokes emotion. I think where people start to loose the concept of art when they confuse the medium that the art is made on with art itself. Medium is just the tools that an artist uses to create. A painters medium is the brush and paint, a photographers medium is a camera and a digital artists medium is a computer and software. Remember guys, its not the medium, its not the design, its the outcome of the two that produces art.

What is the difference between knowing technique and being able to create an actual work of art? Lots of people know how to paint, lots of people know how digitally manipulate photographs and lots of people know how to design. What makes someone step above knowing technique into the realm of being an actual artist. Once again (and I think I have proven my point) Art is the outcome. If you can create something that is aesthetically pleasing and invokes emotion, well then you sir are an Artist!

Ok before I go I’m going to leave you with some links to digital art galleries that are amazing! If you say what these guys are creating isn’t art… well your just crazy!
